Construction Begins July 8 on SB156 Middle Mile Project

July 08, 2025

Construction will begin for the SB156 Middle Mile Project on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. This historic collaboration between HVPUD and the State of California marks the first joint broadband build between a Tribe and the state.

WHERE: Highway 96, starting at mile marker 0.5, proceeding north

DELAYS: Expect up to 15 minutes as crews work to safely install underground fiber optic cable.

Construction will continue throughout the summer, moving in segments from Willow Creek to Weitchpec. 

This project will bring high-capacity fiber infrastructure to the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation and surrounding tribal lands, laying the groundwork for future broadband services. Sign up for alerts on road closures.
